Richard Mille RM 11-01 · RM01101 · 2013

The RM 011 is the reference that took Richard Mille from a specialist curiosity to the watch a certain kind of collector recognises across a room. Mechanically it is a flyback chronograph with an annual calendar — the flyback matters because it resets and restarts in one action rather than three, which is a racing function rather than a decorative one — driven by Calibre RMAC1 in a 50 x 40mm tonneau case built in three parts and held by screws that are themselves specified components. The variants are where the line lives: RM 011 in gold, titanium and TPT composite executions; 11-01, 11-03 and 11-04 as successive developments of the same architecture, several tied to named partnerships. Those are choices about the individual watch, not different mechanisms. What matters on examination: that the flyback resets and restarts cleanly in a single press, and that the annual calendar steps correctly across a 30-day month end; case screw condition, since the three-part case is opened often and rounded screw heads are the visible record of that; the crown's torque limiter, which exists to stop over-winding and should engage; and strap and pusher seals. Service must be by Richard Mille or an authorised specialist. Confirmed through the desk. Maker: Richard Mille. Reference: RM01101. Year: 2013.
